  • impacts of development projects on great crested newts, including: loss of aquatic (breeding) habitat; loss of terrestrial habitat; fragmentation; habitat degradation; indirect effects (hydrological changes and pollution)

To provide:

  • information on licensing requirements

To demonstrate:

  • good practice in mitigating impacts resulting from developments that affect great crested newts and their habitats, including: project design; habitat creation, restoration and enhancement; pollution control; avoidance of disturbance, killing and injury; tunnels and fencing; translocation; timing of operations; monitoring

Objectives:

  • carry out appropriate impact assessments for development projects on great crested newt habitat and populations
  • design appropriate measures to avoid, reduce or off-set the impacts of development projects on great crested newt habitat and populations
Course content:
Lectures
  • Assessing the impacts of development projects on great crested newts
  • Mitigating impacts of development projects on great crested newts
